Blocking

Blocking is the process of shaping a sculpture in rough form. Details are often absent. Blocking is done toward the beginning of the creation of a sculpture.

I'm using a vise to hold my black walnut wood piece as I carve a place that's hard to reach. A good vise is like another set of hands!
