Augusta Savage poses with her sculpture

Renaissance Woman

In this Covid environment I’m taking a look at some of the sculptors I admire.  Augusta Savage is one of those sculptors. In 2019 I visited an exhibition of her work at the New-York Historical Society, titled Augusta Savage: Renaissance Woman. Her portraits are particularly moving, in my opinion, especially Gwendolyn Knight, 1934-35, Portrait of James Weldon Johnson, and my favorite, Gamin, ca. 1930.
