Abstract Expressionism
I recently watched an excellent documentary about the abstract expressionist painter Robert Motherwell and the New York school. The film chronicles Motherwell’s work and treats us to footage of the artist himself speaking about the quest of the New York school artists to make painting in America as important as in Europe. Other artists, including Jackson Pollock, William de Kooning, and sculptor David Smith, are also spotlighted. The film is not only informative, but beautifully and sensitively done.
I’m sure you’ll appreciate this video, made available on YouTube by contemporary art curator Alain Chiviló. It’s for everyone who loves art.
